How property knowledge saved the purchase of a dream home
Anyone who has ever moved house, will understand the stress and anxiety involved. Not surprisingly, it is recognised as one of the top five most stressful life events.
In an article in the May 2022 issue, commercial property investor Suzi Carter shares the story of her very personal journey about searching for and securing the purchase of her forever family home. It was an experience that she believes would not have been possible without the knowledge and experience she has gained throughout her career as a Chartered Surveyor and founder of the Commercial Property Investor.
Due to the lack of stock on the market and the speed at which properties were being snapped up, Suzi and her husband had a rethink. They then broadened their criteria when they realised that the more complex properties on the market were not moving as quickly, and finally found a farmhouse with land, a one-bed cottage, studio, stables, mobile home and a barn with planning permission.
Having an offer accepted was just the start of a very challenging and emotional 10-month journey with multiple difficulties and challenges to overcome, including having to deal with lost title deeds, and a down valuation that jeopardised the purchase. However, thanks to her property experience, Suzi was able to find a way to structure the deal and navigate her way through all the challenges.
Suzi’s journey had a happy ending. Thanks to the right knowledge, support, determination and through building a great relationship with the vendors, who have since become good friends, she and the family are now living in their dream home. In addition, they can look forward to some exciting times with the development of the commercial buildings on their site.
